Este es el último bodegón que hicimos este año en la clase de pintura. Estoy contenta con el resultado. Me tomó bastante tiempo terminarlo (el termo de la izquierda solamente me tomó 6 horas). Esta vez comencé con los objetos y dejé el fondo para el final (algo que supuestamente no debemos hacer, sino todo lo contrario). Pero quería empezar por la parte "fácil" (se me hace muy difícil pintar esas telas del fondo... lo que he logrado aquí no se parece mucho a las telas reales, sino más bien son una especie de síntesis, y gracias a esto lo terminé más rápido).
Y una pequeña recomendación: ¡NO manchar con colores oscuros como hice aquí, es casi imposible cubir ese tono con amarillo!
Yellow Still LifeThis is the last still life we made at painting xclass this year. I'm proud of the result. It took me a really long time to finish it (only the hot water carafe on the left took me 6 hours). This time I started with the objects and left the background last (something we're not supposed to do, we're supposed to do the opposite). But I wanted to start with the "easy" part (I find the drapery background too hard... what I have achieved here does not look quite like the real drapery, I kind of "synthesized" it and finished it in almost no time at the end).
One recommendation: DON'T underpaint with dark colors like we did, it's almos impossible to cover with yellow later!!!

El día de hoy 21 de noviembre de 2011, se inauguró la exposición colectiva "Raíces y Colores" en el Museo de la Nación, de Lima, Perú, donde estoy participando con la obra que incluyo. ¿Cómo así? Porque Dios es muy grande, y mandó a Moisés a mi clase de pintura, y lo conocí y me invitó a participar. Ha sido una experiencia muy linda y por la cual estoy muy agradecida.
Today, november 21, 2011, the group exhibition "Roots and Colors" was inaugurated at the Museo de la Nación, in Lima, Perú, where I am participating with the work I'm including in this post. How did this happen? Thank God who sent Moises to my painting xclass, who I met and who invited me to participate. It's been a very nice experience and I am very grateful for it.

Este bodegón es el tercero que hacemos en la clase de Pintura I (El segundo fue el azul, pero aún no lo he terminado :P lo pondré Dios mediante cuando lo termine...). Pasé por todas esas etapas de desesperación, desánimo, pérdida de esperanza, depresión y todo eso que se siente cuando se está aprendiendo... (dolores de parto, según me decía Marisol, antes de parir un cuadro :)Al final descubrí la pólvora pues, y quedé contenta con el resultado (y después de tanto esfuerzo!)Al final unas fotos del proceso que tuve para terminarlo...Red Still LifeThis still life is the third that we do at Painting Class I (the second one was the blue, but I haven't yet finished it :P I'll post it when finished...). I went through all those moments of despair, discouragement, loss of hope, depression and all that that you feel when you're learning... Como comentara en mi post anterior, ahora soy alumna libre de cursos de la carrera de arte en una escuela profesional (wow, sonó algo rimbombante...). En el curso de pintura, hicimos durante casi un mes (9 horas a la semana) este primer ejercicio. Hubo muchas cosas que aprender sobre la luz y las sombras, sobre definición de bordes, etc. etc, cosas que traté de incluir en mi pintura, pero que igual faltaron por falta de experiencia. Pero bueno, igual estoy muy contenta con el resultado.Ahora estamos haciendo un bodegón con distintos tonos de azul y matices (mezclas) con otros colores. Y está resultando mucho más difícil que este. Dios mediante lo mostraré cuando lo termine.Painting Class - Black and White Still LifeAs I mentioned on my previous post, I'm now an external student of professional courses at an art school (that sounded pretentious... oh well). In painting xclass, during almost a whole month (9 hours a week), we made this first exercise. There were a lot of things to learn about light and shadow, about definition of borders, etc. etc., things that I tried to include in my painting, but that are missing anyway for my lack of experience. I'm very happy with it anyway...Now we're making a new still life with different blues and mixes of blue with other colors. And it is a lot more difficult than the shown here. Esta pintura la hice hace un par de meses en el taller de pintura al que estaba yendo. Es mi regalo por el día del Padre para mi querido esposo, que es fanático de los Beatles (y de otros músicos también, no se puede negar). Así que, con todo el cariño del mundo, le hice esta pintura.
Tomé una foto de Internet, la modifiqué en la computadora, y luego trabajé con una impresión de esa foto. Así resultó esta versión "pop". A mi esposo le gustó mucho, lo cual, por supuesto, me dejó muy contenta : )
Ahora ya no estoy más en el taller de pintura (que llevé por 4 meses). Ahora estoy inscrita como alumna libre* en dos cursos de la carrera de arte (sí, al fin --> ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡!!!!!!!). Estoy MUY CONTENTA, pero MUY CONTENTA con estos cursos (pintura y fundamentos visuales). Al fin estoy recibiendo la teoría que tanto quería conocer. Recién he empezado. Vamos a ver qué pasa.
And Now with you all... The Beatles!I made this painting a couple of months ago when I was attending a painting workshop. It is my Father's Day gift for my beloved husband, who is a fan of the Beatles (and of other musicians as well, it can't be denied). So, with all the love of the world, I made this painting for him.
I took a photo from the Internet, I modified it on the computer, and then I worked from a print out. That's the history behind this "pop" version. My husband liked it very much, which, of course, made me very happy : )
Now I'm not attending the painting workshop anymore (I took it for 4 months). Now I am an external student* of two courses of the art career (yes, finally!!!). I am VERY HAPPY, but really VERY HAPPY with these xclasses (painting and visual fundamentals). I am finally receiving the theory that I wanted so much to know. I have just started. Let's see what happens.
* External student: I am taking only two courses with the kids who are taking the whole art degree (because that's all the time I have, but the idea is to take them progressively, God willing).
* Alumna libre: llevo solo dos cursos con los chicos que están llevando toda la carrera (porque no tengo tiempo, pero la idea es irlos llevando poco a poco Dios mediante).

No ha pasado ni un mes y ya estoy haciendo otro post, ¡caramba, como en los viejos tiempos!
Bueno, es que he estado inscrita en "clases de pintura" nuevamente, en otro lugar. En estas clases me divierto mucho, pero no me enseñan nada de lo que quiero (yo quiero aprender teoría, técnicas, y cosas así, pero de eso no me explican nada). A estas clases van alumnos con una foto de un cuadro que les gustó (de Internet casi siempre, y más de una vez de Brito, que está de moda), y con la ayuda del profesor hacen una "réplica". Yo la verdad no le encuentro mucho el gusto a esto, pero en fin, cada uno con su tema. (sí claro, como si yo no hubiera copiado cuadros ajenos antes jeje).
Bueno, este cuadrito es un original por donde se lo mire, pues hasta la foto la saqué yo misma (me inspiré en uno de los retos del sitio
Daily Paintworks). Me tomó Dios y su ayuda terminarlo también, he de decir. Y lo dí por terminado pues mi paciencia y desesperación ya no daban más, y como leí por allí, para lograr pintar con calidad, hay que hacer primero mucha cantidad (y bueno, no sé cómo me aplica esto pero igual lo pensé y lo dejé allí, felizmente!).
Orange Salad
It hasn't been a month and I'm posting again; way to go, just like in the old times! :)
Well, it's because I've been attending to "painting xclasses" again, but now somewhere else. I have a lot of fun in these xclasses, but I don't really get the instruction I'm looking for (I want to learn theory, painting techniques and things like that, but I don't get that at all). My xclassmates take pictures of paintings they like to xclass (from the Internet mostly, and more than once from Brito, who is now 'the chic trend') and with the help of the teacher they do a "replica". I really don't like this very much, but... whatever, everyone has its own ideas (and sure, as if I had never copied somebody else's paintings before.... for the sake of practicing, anyway).
Well, this small painting is an original by its own right, because I even took the source photo myself (I got the inspiration from one of the challenges of the
Daily Paintworks site). It took me ages and a lot of work to finish it, I must say. And I called it finished only because my patience and desperation were overwhelming, and as I read somewhere, to achieve quality painting skills you must first paint in quantity (and yeah, I don't know how that applies to me now but I thought of this anyway and left the painting there, thank God!)

Así quedó una pared del cuarto de mi hija luego de que terminara de pintarle los Littlest Petshops que quería. Me divertí bastante haciendo este pequeño mural, y fue la primera vez que pinté en la pared de esta manera; a pesar de las pequeñas proporciones, tuve que hacerla de contorsionista varias veces: No es fácil pintar en la pared, mis respetos a los muralistas!
The above photo shows how one wall of my daughter's bedroom ended after I finished painting the Littlest Petshops that she wanted. I had lots of fun making this wall painting, it was the first time I ever painted this way, and even though it wasn't big, I had to play contortionist many times: it's not easy to paint on a wall, my hat's off for the muralists!

Y bueno, ya pasó un mes del año, casi la mitad del varano. Soy oficialmente la chofer de mis hijos :) y mientras espero a que terminen sus clases (natación, judo, etc. más o menos 15 viajes a la semana), a veces me animo a dibujar (cuando veo que voy a tener suficiente tiempo, por lo menos media hora corrida).
Ya no tengo NINGUNA vergüenza de dibujar en público, y es más, me parece, por lo menos en la clase de natación, que podría haber inspirado al menos a una persona, otra mamá, a hacer algo productivo mientras espera (ella también está con cuaderno y lápiz, pero no dibuja, saca cuentas, o algo así...)
Oh! y casi lo olvidaba, feliz segundo aniversario, querido blog :)
Summer so far - Earrings
And well, one month of the year is already gone, almost half of summer. I'm the official driver of my kids :) and while I wait for their xclasses to finish (swimming, judo, etc. more or less 15 trips per week) sometimes I feel like sketching (when I see I'll have enough time, at least a full and uninterrupted half an hour).
Now I have NO shame at all of sketching in public; even more, I think, at least at swimming xclass, I might have inspired one other waiting mom (she also sits with a notebook and pen, but she doesn't draw, she does some kind of math...)

En los últimos meses no he tenido tiempo ni de poner la punta de un lápiz sobre un papel, pero sí he podido hacer algunas cosas creativas, contra el tiempo. Por ejemplo la otra vez, hace unas pocas semanas, hice la torta para el baby shower de mi hermana. Bueno, hice es un decir, porque en realidad compré las tortas hechas (en Wong -supermercado-), y lo único que hice fue decorarlas.
Y tenía varias razones para hacerlo: uno, mi horno está malogrado, dos, no tenía mucho tiempo para preparar las tortas, y tres, no me salen bien, nada en la cocina en general (aunque de vez en cuando logro alguna que otra "obra maestra"=irrepetible ;)
Me gustó reencontrarme con la masa elástica, puedo decir que ya le perdí el miedo (en mi cabeza no cabía cómo un círculo podía cubrir un cilindro sin hacer arrugas, es "geométricamente imposible", pero la masa elástica no piensa ni ha llevado clases de geometría, así que se le puede convencer).
Y bueno, echándole la culpa a la falta de tiempo, el modelo que hice fue inspirado por este
otro que me pareció lindo.
Bueno, les mando muchos saludos a todos, y espero que todos pasen una hermosa y feliz Navidad junto con todos los que quieren, e igualmente para el Año Nuevo.

Creativity vs. Time
In the last few months I have not found the time to put a pencil over a sheet of paper, but I was able to do some creative stuff, even against time. For instance, a few weeks ago, I made my sister's baby shower cake. Well, sayng I made it is not completely true because I actually bought the cakes (at the supermarket), and the only thing I did was decorating them.
And I had many reasons to do so: first, my oven is not working, two, I didn't have much time to prepare the cakes, and three, cakes I make are less than OK, as everything I make in the kitchen in general (although once in a while I get to make a "masterpiece" = unrepeatable ;)
I enjoyed meeting with fondant again, I can say I've lost the fear I had when planning to work with it (I couldn't understand how a circle could cover, smoothly and without wrinkling and folding, a cylinder, that is "geometrically impossible", but.... fondant doesn't think and neither has it taken geometry xclasses, so, it can be convinced).
And well, blaming the lack of time, I got the inspiration for the cake from this
other one that I liked a lot.

Querido blog, hace tanto tiempo que no te visitaba, pero al fin pude parar un ratito para dejar un nuevo dibujo (el único que tengo, dicho sea de paso). Mi vida anda a mil por hora (hemos tenido nuevas reparaciones/remodelaciones en la casa, he retomado la empresa de chocolates que había dejado, sigo con las traducciones, además de los chicos y las cosas que "se supone debo hacer como mamá"). Pero nunca te olvido, querido blog, te recuerdo junto con todas las maravillosas personas que me fuiste presentando y que recuerdo igual pero que no tengo tiempo de visitar. Mándales muchos saludos de mi parte.
Little Bunny
Dear blog, it's been so long since my last visit, but I finally was able to stop for a while and leave you a new drawing (the only one I have, by the way). My life is running at a thousand mph (we had to do new repairing/remodeling in the house, I have retaken the chocolate business I had left, I keep doing translations, besides the kids and the stuff "I'm supposed to do as a mom"). But I never forget you, dear blog, I remember you and all the wonderful people that you kept introducing to me who I remember too but who I have no time to visit. Please send them my best wishes.
Sigo ocupada, creo que eso no va a cambiar pronto :) Estuve un poco bajoneada y desanimada en el tema del arte sabe Dios por qué, pero ya pasó, bueno, está pasando. Ya vi que no voy a poder hacer nada muy complejo pronto, pero sí volver a dibujar en el auto o en la sala de espera de las clases de mis hijos. Hay poca gente y ya me conocen, así que no hay mayor problema. Incluso enseño mi dibujo al final (fue lo que hice con este perrito). Este dibujo lo hice sin prisas y disfrutando cada trazo, en dos sentadas en una sala de espera (2 horas más o menos). El modelo: de una revista de mascotas. Los ojos quedaron un poco más pequeños que en el original, y me parece que las orejas un poco chuecas, pero... qué más da. Igual me gusta mucho.
Las entradas a mi blog (y mis visitas a los suyos) van a seguir un poco más espaciadas, a menos que ocurra algo que ayude a que eso cambie. Pero seguiré aquí de todas maneras. Gracias por estar allí amigos.
I'm still busy, and I think that's not going to change soon :) I've been a little bit down and discouraged about art God knows why, but it's over now, well, it's going away. I now know that I won't be able to do anything too complex any time soon, but I'll go back to drawing on the car or at the waiting rooms of my kids' xclasses. There's only a few people there and they already know me, so there's not much problem. I even show my drawing at the end (that's what I did with this doggy). I did this drawing with no rush and enjoying every stroke, in two sittings at a waiting room. The model: from a pet magazine. The eyes ended up a little bit smaller than the original, and I think the ears are not exactly balanced, but... whatever. I still like it a lot.
My blog entries (and my visits to yours) will still be distant, unless something happens that helps that to change. But I'l be here anyway. Thank you for being there friends.

Realmente he estado muy ocupada últimamente. He estado muriendo por poner algo (este cisne), pero no tenía tiempo de sentarme y concentrarme en el blog. Me he dado tiempo para pasar a mirar los blogs que me rodean y que disfruto visitando, pero para cuando terminaba, ¡ya no tenía tiempo de postear!
Este año soy delegada (voluntaria) de las clases de mis hijos. Yo pensé que esto iba a ser cosa relativamente fácil, pero no me esperaba tanto trabajo. En el colegio de mi hija hubo un campeonato de fútbol relámpago en el cual tuvimos que participar organizando un stand de intercambio de stickers/figuritas de los álbumes del mundial. Y por el día del maestro, en el colegio de mi hijo, hicimos a mano el regalo para las 21 profesoras. (Y claro, yo fui de las más entusiastas en proponerlo y sostener la idea, así que tuve que 'fajarme' con buena parte del trabajo). En otra entrada trataré de poner las fotos de lo que hicimos.
Ah, y el cisne, lo hice hace más o menos un mes atrás, en casa de mis padres, cuando estábamos de visita.

Really BusyI have been really busy lately. I've been dying to post something (the swan) but I had no time to sit and focus on the blog. I took the time to stop by the 'surrounding' blogs, the ones I enjoy visiting, but when I was done, I had no time left for posting!
This year I'm the (volunteer) 'xclass delegate' [I wonder what's the correct word for this in English] of my children's xclasses. I thought this was going to be something relatively easy, but I didn't expect so much work. At my daughter's school they organized a quick soccer championship and we had to participate organizing a sticker-interchange stand (those from the soccer world cup sticker albums). And, for teacher's day, at my son's school, we hand made the 21 teacher's gifts (and of course, I was one of the most enthusiasts in proposing and supporting the hand-made idea, so I had to deal with a good portion of the work). I'll try to show you some photos of what we did on another post.
Oh, and the swan, I made it approximately one month ago, at my parent's home during a visit. Original

Bueno, este es otro caso de pintura desesperada. Desesperada por salir. Luego del bajón del último post, que gracias a Dios ya se me está pasando (millones de gracias por todas sus alentadoras palabras, de corazón), me di cuenta de varias cosas que había perdido de vista un poco. Pintar se supone que debe ser divertido! Incluso si me estoy esforzando y saliendo de mi “zona cómoda”; no me debo comparar con nadie (no me debo comparar con nadie, no me debo comparar con nadie!!!); y debo hacer más cosas que me provoquen realmente.
Como el dibujo que pongo hoy. No es un tema muy común… pero qué importa! Fue lo que me provocó hacer en ese momento (un sábado por la noche, donde no había ninguna presión de nada, los chicos se habían quedado a dormir en casa de sus abuelitos, mi esposo veía tele y yo lo acompañaba dibujando). Se cumplía lo que puse en mi perfil: mucho tiempo y espacio a mi disposición. Comencé a las 12 y terminé como a las 2 a.m., más o menos. Y sí, no salimos pues :)
And there was light!
Well, this is another case of desperate painting. Desperate for coming to light. After my down of the last post, that thank God is already going away (million thanks for all your encouraging words, from the heart), I realized that I had somehow stopped considering a few things. Painting is supposed to be fun! Even if I’m trying hard and going out of my “comfort zone”; I shouldn’t compare myself with anyone else (I shouldn’t compare myself with anyone else , I shouldn’t compare myself with anyone else!!!); and I have to make more things that I really enjoy making.
Just like the drawing that I’m posting today. It’s not much of a common subject, but …who cares! That’s what I felt like to paint at that moment (a Saturday night, where there was no pressure involved about anything, the kids were sleeping over at their grandparents, my husband was watching TV and I was by his side drawing). I was having just what I have included on my profile: a lot of time and space for me. I started at 12 and finished around 2 a.m. And yes, we didn’t go out :)
No he tocado un lápiz, un lápiz de color, un pincel ni nada parecido en las últimas semanas. Simplemente no he tenido tiempo, y también he de confesarlo, tampoco muchas ganas. No sé si me he contagiado o simplemente soy yo. Lo que ha estado pasando últimamente por mi cabeza es que he estado decepcionada realmente de mis pinturas. Quisiera que fueran mejores, ¡pero no me salen! Ni modo, practicando poco tampoco se llega muy lejos.
No estoy deprimida ni mucho menos, por si acaso, al contrario, últimamente he estado muy ocupada y bastante satisfecha con mi vida off-line gracias a Dios :) Pero sí he sentido esta sensación de “inutilidad artística”, pensando si vale la pena o no … pero sí vale. Lo que tengo que dejar de hacer es compararme, simplemente disfrutar de lo que hago, como en los viejos tiempos…
Bueno, ya se me está pasando de todas formas. Aquí les dejo lo que hice hoy mientras me tomaba un descanso viendo Cold Case, después de revisar tareas y firmar exámenes (muy buenas notas por cierto :)
Creo que debería retomar lo de dibujar en el auto… o algo por el estilo.

I want to cut
I haven’t touched a pencil, or colored pencil, or brush or anything like that in the last few weeks. I simply didn’t have time, and I must confess too, neither much eagerness. I don’t know if I “caught” it or if it’s simply me. What has been going around in my head lately is that I have been feeling really disappointed with my paintings. I wish they were better, but I can’t! No way, and with the little practice I have I’m not getting any better.
I’m not depressed or whatsoever, just in case, all the contrary, I have been very busy and very satisfied with my off-line life, thank God :) But I did have the sensation of “artistic uselessness”, thinking if it’s worth it or not… but it is. What I have to stop doing is comparing what I do with others’ work, and simply enjoy what I do, as in the old times…
Well, I’m overcoming it anyway. Here I’m posting what I did today while taking a break and watching “Cold Case”, after revising homework and signing tests (very good grades by the way :).
I think I should restart drawing in the car… or something like that.

Aunque también podrían ser flores de manzana o de ciruela… al menos yo no reconozco la diferencia por las flores :)
Me he demorado más o menos media hora en cada flor, tiempo esparcido en varios días, en varias cortas secuencias por día, en cada momento que tenía libre y en el que tenía ganas de pintar.
Usé papel marrón oscuro, pero no me di cuenta de que no era lo suficientemente oscuro para contrastar bien con las flores, así que al final decidí poner un tono más oscuro para el fondo alrededor de las flores (que viva el sepia!)

Peach Flowers
They could also be apple or plum flowers… I can’t tell the difference by the flowers :)
It took me approximately half an hour on each flower, time divided through many days, during short sessions each day, every time I had free and was in the mood for painting.
I used dark brown paper, but I didn’t realize that it wasn’t dark enough to make a good contrast with the flowers, so at the end I decided to put a darker color as a background for the flowers (long life to sepia!)

Hay cosas que me resultan más fáciles y que disfruto más (no es que me salgan totalmente bien, pero me SIENTO bien haciéndolos). Los paisajes definitivamente no están en este grupo :) Admiro a las personas que son capaces de simplificarlos y plasmarlos en una pintura.
En la categoría de NO PAISAJES está este papagayo. Aún no lo he terminado, pero lo estoy poniendo porque se acaba el plazo para incluirlo en el segundo reto de Monthly Sketch Project. La foto nuevamente es de ffyrebird, ¡gracias!

Macaw
There are things that I find easier and that I enjoy more (it doesn’t mean that I end up with a master piece, but I FEEL GOOD during the process). Landscapes are definitely not in this group :) I admire people who are able to simplify them and paint them in a painting.
This macaw belongs to the NOT LANDSCAPE category. I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m posting it because today is the due date for the second challenge at the Monthly Sketch Project. The photo belongs to ffyrebird again, thank you!

Este dibujo lo hice para el primer reto de abril del blog Monthly Sketch Project. La foto de referencia es de ffyrebird.
Desde que vi la foto supe que la iba a hacer en papel negro. Hace tiempo que quería volver a pintar en este papel, y la piedra blanca de la pagoda me parecía perfecta para usarlo, bajo la luz de la luna, rodeada de algunas hojas de palmera, y quizás de algunas enigmáticas nubes. Y bueeeno… no salió como lo había imaginado, jejeje, pero ni modo. Me divertí haciéndolo. Recordé poner los colores atmosféricos en las luces reflejadas en la piedra, pero soy malísima para darle uniformidad a los lápices de colores, sobre todo en el fondo, bfff… Y finalmente, no supe cómo resolver el primer plano, la parte del jardín delante de la pagoda… si alguien se apiada y tiene alguna sugerencia, será bienvenid@ (no prometo hacerlo, pero sí considerarlo :)
Night Pagoda
I did this drawing for April’s first challenge of the Monthly Sketch Project blog. The reference photo is from ffyrebird.
From the moment I saw this photo, I knew I was going to draw it on black paper. It had been a while that I wanted to use this paper, and the white stone of the pagoda seemed perfect to use it, under the moonlight, surrounded by palm tree leaves, and maybe by some mysterious clouds. And we-e-ell… it didn’t come out as I portrait it in my mind hehe, but what else could I do? I had fun doing it. I remembered to put the atmospheric colors on the reflected lights on the stone, but I’m really bad at achieving uniformity on the cp’s strokes on the background, *sigh*… And finally, I couldn’t resolve the first plane, the part of the yard in front of the pagoda … if there is someone out there merciful enough to give me any suggestion, it will be very welcome (I don’t promise to actually make it, but to seriously consider it :)

O “El juego de la sexta…”. Ese es el título del juego que me ha pasado Martine Alison del blog “Ma dollhouse joue un grand air de peinture”, un blog que dicho sea de paso está lleno de sorpresas artísticas muy agradables. Este juego consiste en colocar la sexta foto del blog en la entrada correspondiente y pasarlo a 10 personas, si no me equivoco. Y yo, con todo cariño, se los dejo a todos ustedes para que sigan el juego libremente. Me parece divertido y es una manera de revivir cosas que están por allá, en los albores de los blogs y prácticamente relegados al olvido :)

Le Jeu de la Sixième
Or “The game of the sixth…”. That’s the name of the game that Martine Alison, from the blog “Ma dollhouse joue un grand air de peinture”, (which by the way is full of very nice art surprises), has passed on to me. This game consists in posting the sixth photo of the blog in the corresponding blog post and pass it on to 10 people, if I’m not wrong. And I, from the bottom of my heart, give it to you so that you can join in. I think it’s fun and a good way to ‘revive’ things that are far there, at the dawn of the blogs and practically forgotten :)

Este paisaje es mi participación en el segundo desafío de este mes del blog Monthly Sketch Project. La foto de referencia es de Raena. Me pareció una foto tan bonita que decidí pintarla, a pesar de que los paisajes no son mi tema favorito. Mi tendencia a poner mucho detalle hace que no disfrute demasiado hacer cosas como esta, en la que los detalles abundan. Creo que por eso me gustan más los acercamientos. No estoy muy contenta con el resultado, para ser sincera. Me he demorado mucho, he hecho muchas correcciones, he recibido consejos (que no he podido usar esta vez), pero la conclusión final es que he aprendido bastante (o al menos eso creo :) ¡Y eso me gusta! Vaya que fue un reto…
Colored Pencil Landscape
This landscape is my entry for the second challenge of this month of the Monthly Sketch Project blog. The reference photo is Raena’s. I thought it was such a lovely picture that I decided to paint it anyway, in spite of landscapes not being my favorite subject. My tendency to put too much detail makes me unable to really enjoy when I do stuff like this, where details are abundant. I think that is why I like close-ups better. I am not especially happy with the result, to be honest. It’s taken me too long, I’ve made a lot of corrections, I’ve even received advise (that I couldn’t use this time), but the bottom line is that I have learned a lot (or at least I think so :) And I like that! Wow it was a challenge…

Esta semana que los chicos me dejan libres las mañanas, pude aprovechar algunos momentos de cada día para hacer una pintura con lápices de colores. Desde que vi la foto en el blog Monthly Sketch Project me propuse hacerla porque me pareció preciosa y dentro de mis posibilidades técnicas. Esta foto la tomó Gillian Mowbray del blog “The Fading Rose”
Hace mucho tiempo que no pintaba con mis queridos lápices de colores y ya los estaba extrañando.
También hice un intento para la foto propuesta en el blog “Una Idea Mucho Arte”, en óleo. Fue tan desastroso que no tengo cara para mostrárselo a nadie. Simplemente la pintura no se entiende. En fin. Estoy muy contenta con mis aliáceas :)

Visiting Family
This week I was able to take advantage of a couple of moments every day, during the mornings while the kids were at school, to finish a cp painting. I decided to do it since I saw the reference photo on the Monthly Sketch Project Blog because I found it very beautiful and within my technical abilities. This photo was taken by Gillian Mowbray from the The Fading Rose blog.
It’s been a while since I hadn’t painted with my beloved colored pencils and I was already missing them.
I also gave a try to the photo proposed on the Una Idea Mucho Arte blog (One Idea Lots of Art Blog – under my translation), in oil. It ended up so bad and disastrous that I can’t show it to no-one! The painting is impossible to understand. But whatever. I’m very happy with my Alliaceae :)
Hoy es el día Internacional de la Mujer (y cumpleaños de mi hermana menor :), y quería desearle a todas las mujeres de todas las edades que pasen un excelente día, y que recordemos el origen de esta conmemoración.
Y quería compartir con todos también que mi querido amigo Ken Barclay me ha dado el “Sunshine Award”, lo cual me ha dado mucha alegría y me honra. ¡Muchas gracias Ken!

Información sobre el Día de la Mujer:
El Día Internacional de la Mujer Trabajadora (o también Día Internacional de la Mujer) se celebra el día 8 de marzo y está reconocido por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU). En este día se conmemora la lucha de la mujer por su participación, en pie de igualdad con el hombre, en la sociedad y en su desarrollo íntegro como persona. Es fiesta nacional en algunos países.
La idea de un día internacional de la mujer surgió al final del siglo XIX, en plena revolución industrial y durante el auge del movimiento obrero. La celebración recoge una lucha ya emprendida en la antigua Grecia por Lisístrata, quien empezó una huelga sexual contra los hombres para poner fin a la guerra, y que se vio reflejada en la Revolución francesa: las mujeres parisienses, que pedían "libertad, igualdad y fraternidad", marcharon hacia Versalles para exigir el sufragio femenino, pero no fue sino hasta los primeros años del siglo XX cuando se comenzó a proclamar, desde diferentes organizaciones internacionales de izquierda, la celebración de una jornada de lucha específica para la mujer y sus derechos.

International Women’s Day and Sunshine Award
Today is the International Women’s Day (and birthday of my youngest sister :), and I wanted to wish all women of all ages have and excellent day, and that we recall the origin of this commemoration.
And I wanted to share with everyone that my dear friend Ken Barclay has given me the “Sunshine Award”, which has made me really happy and honored. Thank you so much, Ken!
